Solar takes the spotlight.

Connecting with a grassroots audience is essential to the future growth of The Vote Solar Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing solar energy into the mainstream. Founded to spearhead the successful effort to pass a ballot initiative in 2001, the organization’s primary web audience evolved over the years from legislators and core stakeholders to include the public at large. They tasked EMC with the redesign of their website with the goal of alluring more citizen activists and spreading their mission through social media.

Objective:

We leveraged the visual equity of Vote Solar’s existing site and enhanced it with new organization and architecture. Content was reprioritized to bring citizen-friendly categories to the forefront. We integrated social media tools and content into the site to encourage connections with the activist community. We also developed an easy-to-use CMS platform so the client could implement their own changes and publish their own content.

Solution:

We freshened up the color palette and used illustration to reinforce the community connection and national appeal of Vote Solar.

Using persistent and intuitive navigation to highlight relevant content for the new audience, we brought best practices to the next-gen site.

We incorporated social media, particularly Twitter, content into the site and made these platforms available throughout.

Using the WordPress platform, with customized templates, and creating users manual and how-to documents for training and reference, we met the needs of multiple content providers within the Vote Solar organization.
